About Me

Nancy Gerfers

From drawing as an indoor, less-than-active kid, to taking lessons in painting, I found a muse that followed me into college and beyond.  In 1984, I learned mastery of watercolor with Bill Hocker at the San Antonio Art Institute.   Later, I returned for some inner child time to acrylic when a friend introduced me to the fun of abstract collage. Now, I am trying out some encaustic to add to my collages on paper—Experimenting and challenging myself makes me a better artist and I encourage anyone to push themselves   I enjoy the process of layering, composing, and editing pieces, striving for movement and joy of color.  I believe Art should be valued as a process to restore the soul, shared with others for their mental health, and ultimately make the world a more beautiful place.
